TikTok Shop expired promotion content: update and removal checks

On TikTok Shop, creator content that states a discount or urgency does not end when it is posted. The team must separately check whether the offer is still valid when viewers see it, or whether the content needs updating or removal.

The short answer

Yes. TikTok Shop’s July 2026 policy guidance says discount claims in creator content must be accurate, verifiable against the product’s TikTok Shop listing price, and still valid when viewers see the content. When the promoted discount expires, the content should be updated or removed. Product delivery and promotion expiry are safer to manage in the same operating record.

  • A discount claim has to be valid when viewed, not only on the publication date.
  • Urgency copy without the code, period, audience, and conditions is hard to verify later.
  • For content that cannot be edited, decide the replacement copy and end date before the discount begins.

How long does a discount claim have to stay accurate?

TikTok Shop says discount claims in creator content must be accurate, verifiable against the product’s TikTok Shop listing price, and still valid when viewers see the content. Being accurate on the day a video was posted is therefore not the end of the work. For a video that may remain visible, the promotion end date becomes a content-management deadline.

The team needs more than one percentage to make that check. It should be able to see which product is involved, which listing price is being compared, which conditions apply, and when the offer ends. With those four facts separated, the wording in a video can later be checked against the current product page.

Urgency language follows the same rule. TikTok Shop says time-sensitive or urgency language should be used only while the promotion is active.

What should happen to content after the discount expires?

When the discount expires, content that promoted it should be updated or removed. TikTok Shop directly instructs creators to update or remove content when a promoted discount expires.

The job on the end date is therefore not only to open a new promotion page. The team needs to locate creator posts that remain visible, videos reshared by the brand, and videos used in advertising that contain the earlier discount or urgency language.

Creator videos that cannot be edited need an earlier decision. For a video intended to remain after the promotion ends, it is safer to centre the creative on product use rather than a fixed price or deadline. Where discount copy is essential, put the post-expiry action in the collaboration terms and the content list as well.

What should the creator receive before posting?

A creator needs not only the discount itself but also the point at which the claim must stop or change. TikTok Shop’s standard is accuracy, verifiability, and current validity, so sending a code without the applicable conditions or end date leaves too few facts to check after publication.

Five fields in the brief are enough.

This table is not a legal template. It is the minimum record that lets the creator, product operator, and advertising operator see the same expiry date.

What should be recorded separately in the operating plan?

Keep posting status and discount-claim status as separate fields in the operating plan. A record that only says a post went live cannot say whether the discount wording in it is still valid. TikTok Shop requires the content to be accurate, verifiable, and valid at the time it is viewed.

What should be recorded separately in the operating plan?

Do not collapse this record into one number. Post count names the scope of work, the promotion end date names the decision point, and action status says whether the change actually happened. None substitutes for the other two.

The first operating record does not need to assign the same risk to every post. A video that states a code, an exact price, or a deadline is an immediate expiry check.

A video that only shows product use and does not connect itself to the current offer can sit in the same list, but it should not be treated as automatically requiring a change because a discount ended. Recording the wording is what makes that distinction possible.

Keep a brand repost separate from the original creator post. Even where an original is updated, a brand-owned edit, an ad cutdown, or another post with a changed link can remain unchanged.

The reverse is also true: removing an original does not prove that every copy has gone away. A URL and action status for each asset let the team locate where the same discount wording remains.

A price change and a promotion expiry are not the same event. A discount can end while the listing price remains unchanged; a variant, stock position, or code condition can also change during the promotion.

One expiry reminder is therefore not enough. Record who compared the claim with the listing conditions at that moment, and when, so the choice to keep, update, or remove can be explained later.

What is the check order before expiry?

Before expiry, open the content list first, compare the live listing and discount conditions second, then name the person responsible for updating or removing the content. TikTok Shop requires validity at the time of viewing as well as an update or removal after expiry, so waiting until the end date can be too late.

  1. Mark expiring offers

Put every offer with an end date and every post that uses its wording in one list.

  2. Compare current conditions

Check whether the price, discount, and urgency wording in the video still match the current TikTok Shop listing and conditions.

  3. Choose the action

Update editable content to current conditions; decide whether to remove content that cannot be updated or whose current conditions cannot be assured.

  4. Record completion

Separate a request that was made from content that was actually updated or removed, and from content not yet checked.

This order does not mean demanding a retrospective edit from a creator. It means agreeing on editability and post-expiry handling when the collaboration begins, then checking that agreement alongside the current TikTok Shop conditions.

The handoff most likely to delay this work is between the person who knows the promotion end date and the person who holds the post list. The person who created the offer knows when it expires, while the collaboration owner knows which videos went live.

Without one shared list, they only find each other after the offer has ended. Collecting post URLs when the offer begins and naming the pre-expiry owner makes that handoff shorter.

Keep three different outcomes for an update request. A creator agreeing to edit but not yet publishing the change, a completed update, and a removal request for content that cannot be edited are not the same state.

The first needs a follow-up time, the second needs one more comparison with the live listing, and the third needs confirmation that public visibility actually changed. Separating the states makes the post-expiry decision come from the record rather than memory.

This procedure is not a rule to remove a strong post immediately. First ask whether the video can remain without the discount claim, whether it can be updated to current conditions, and whether its live link and wording still agree. Keeping and updating usable content, then removing only content that cannot remain accurate, avoids treating offer expiry and content value as the same decision.

At the first post-expiry check, include comments and pinned comments. Removing discount wording from a video does not resolve a code or pre-expiry price that remains in a pinned comment, because a viewer may still expect the same condition. Check link previews and profile links as part of the same inventory when they communicate the offer outside the video.

Give paid assets a status separate from organic posts. The same video can remain active in an ad account even after the public post is updated, and its landing URL conditions need their own check. Marking whether an asset is organic, paid, or both prevents a gap in the expiry review.

The record does not need to be a complex system. One row with the post URL, public channel, offer claim, end date, owner, last check, and next action is enough to begin. What matters is that the list is complete before expiry and that the outcome returns to the same row afterward.

This guide turns general TikTok Shop policy principles into an operating sequence. It does not replace a policy or legal assessment for a particular post, or an interpretation of a creator contract. Decide the live action only after checking the TikTok Shop policy, listing conditions, and editing rights that apply at that time.

Reuse the inventory for the next promotion, but do not overwrite the prior offer wording with new conditions. Keeping the prior check visible is what separates the new campaign's review scope from the previous campaign's outcome.

When an end date changes, update the record and the next review time together so an old reminder does not make the decision for a new schedule.

Common questions

Is it enough for the discount to be accurate when the post goes live?

No. TikTok Shop says a discount claim must still be valid when viewers see the content. A discount that was accurate only on publication day needs another check if the content remains visible later. [^tiktok-policy-pulse-july-2026]

Does every video need to be removed when the period ends?

TikTok Shop says content promoting an expired discount should be updated or removed. If its discount wording can be made accurate for current conditions, consider an update. If it cannot, or the current conditions cannot be assured, consider removal. [^tiktok-policy-pulse-july-2026]

Can the brand edit a creator video directly?

This guidance states that content should be updated or removed, but it does not specify who has what edit authority. Agree separately on editability, the request route, and post-expiry handling before the collaboration, then retain those facts in the operating plan.

Does a product-introduction video without discount copy need an end-date action?

This guide concerns content that states a discount, price, or urgency. The official guidance does not let us conclude that an ordinary product-introduction video without such a claim must be updated or removed for the same reason. A video that states another condition that is no longer current still needs its own review.
